JKBOSE Announces No Practical Exams for Class 10th Annual Regular 2023

JKBOSE

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has recently announced that there will be no practical exams for Class 10 students this year. Instead, the board will rely on internal tests conducted by the schools during the academic session for evaluation purposes. This decision has been taken in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has disrupted academic schedules and forced educational institutions to resort to alternative teaching and assessment methods.

Procedure for Evaluation (JKBOSE) :

According to Lal Hussain, Joint Secretary, Examination, BOSE, schools will forward the 20 marks internal results of the students to the board, which will be used for evaluation purposes. This is a well-established procedure that has been followed in previous years as well. However, BOSE will hold external practicals for Class 11 and 12.

Examination Schedule (JKBOSE):

The Class 10 exam in soft zones of Kashmir was recently concluded, with more than 63,500 students appearing for the matriculation exam. The exam for Class 12 will kick off on April 11, while the exam for Class 11 will start on April 12. The government had shifted the academic session to March last year, in sync with the National Education Policy (NEP).

Admission Process:

Meanwhile, the admission process to the next classes has already started in Kashmir, with several schools issuing admission forms to students. Private schools have also completed their admission process. The decision of the Jammu and Kashmir government to provisionally promote Class 10 students to the next class has helped avoid academic loss.

Uniform Academic Calendar:

As per the ‘Uniform Academic Calendar,’ students who appear in Class 10 and 11 examinations shall be provisionally admitted in Class 11th and 12th, respectively, after the conclusion of the Board examination. Students who are declared unsuccessful shall be permitted to continue their studies in Class 11th and 12th till the result of the Biannual/Annual Private examinations is declared. In case the students fail in the Bi-annual examination, provisional admission shall be canceled, according to a government order.

Implications:

The decision to not conduct practical exams for Class 10 students in Jammu and Kashmir is a necessary step in the current situation. With the ongoing pandemic, it is crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of the students while also continuing their education. The reliance on internal tests conducted by the schools will ensure that the evaluation process is fair and accurate. Additionally, the provisional promotion of students to the next class has helped avoid academic loss and ensure continuity in their education.
