Govt Notification: Exemption from Fine for Not Linking PAN with Aadhaar for Certain Categories

The Indian government has issued a notification stating that certain categories of individuals will not be required to pay a fine for not linking their PAN (Permanent Account Number) with Aadhaar. Exemption Categories for Linking PAN with Aadhaar

In May 2017, the Union Ministry of Finance issued a notification that exempted certain categories of individuals from linking their PAN with Aadhaar. This means that even if these individuals do not link their PAN with Aadhaar, they will not face any penalty of Rs 10,000. the empeted categories are as follows:

Individuals living in Assam, Meghalaya, and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir
Non-residents
Individuals aged 80 years or older during the previous year
Non-citizens of India

Alternatively, individuals can also link their PAN card with Aadhaar card by visiting the official website of the Income Tax Department of India, incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.

  1. Banks should have informed their customers through SMS to link Aadhar with PAN as they hold copies of the same regarding this notification when received by them.
    since most people are not aware of this deadline. Banks likewise ask for KYC, people are are aware that it has to be linked.
